Sony Cinema Line FX2 - ILME-FX2
Cinematic video and advanced photo capture
Equipped with a 33MP full-frame sensor, the Sony FX2 combines the Cinema Line’s extensive video capabilities with enhanced stills capture capabilities in a compact, travel-friendly form factor. Ideal for mobile filmmakers and content creators, the FX2 features an S-Log3 photo mode with optional LUT application and a 3.68m-dot OLED viewfinder that tilts from 0 to 90°. The AI processing unit provides active image stabilization and real-time subject recognition, maximizing autofocus and framing accuracy.
33MP Exmor R BSI CMOS sensor
Combining the 33MP back-illuminated Exmor R sensor with the BIONZ XR processor, the FX2 captures vibrant 4K video with natural gradations, realistic colors, and low noise in both full-frame and Super 35 modes. In full-frame mode, the FX2 offers 7K oversampling with full pixel readout for exceptional sharpness and realism. Designed for a wide range of lighting scenarios, the FX2 features 15+ stops of dynamic range, ISO expandability to 102,400, and updated dual-base ISO technology for recording in S-log3 at either ISO 800 or 4000.
DCI 4K video recording
Designed with flexibility in mind, the FX2 records DCI 4K internally with 10-bit 4:2:2 sampling, or outputs 16-bit raw video via an HDMI connection. You can record video in XAVS S, SI, and HS recording formats using Long GOP, All-Intra, H.264, and H.265 codecs. Color and tonal reproduction can be precisely adjusted with up to 16 user-imported LUTs, or the S-Cinematone mode for matching VENICE, FX9, FX6, FX3, and other camera sources. The FX2 features an intuitive Variable FPS setting for creating time-lapse and slow-motion video, and can de-squeeze 1.3x and 2.0x anamorphic footage in-camera.
Capture hybrid still images
The FX2 adds hybrid camera versatility to the Cinema Line by improving still image capture and adding features such as log shooting and the application of user LUT.
Built-in switch to switch from movie to still mode
Shoot 33MP JPG or HEIF images in S-Log3 for easy post-production color grading
Take photos of shot markers while recording or playing back videos in the camera
Apply previously imported user LUTs to captured photos
Options for flexible or basic ISO settings and S-Gamut3 or S-Gamut3.Cine color spaces
AI Subject Recognition
The FX2’s AI processing unit delivers multiple improvements to autofocus, auto framing, and stabilization using deep learning. The processor analyzes colors, patterns, and depth to deliver sharp focus with real-time subject recognition, identifying people, animals, and vehicles. Human and animal eye recognition has been improved by 30% compared to the FX3 and FX30, making the FX2 ideal for high-speed shooting scenarios such as capturing wildlife and sporting events. This advanced tracking function also enables precise auto framing, adjusting the shot composition to keep a subject in the center of the frame.
Extended stabilization
The FX2 combines on-body optical image stabilization with AI processing power and E-mount lens metadata for post-production, offering a range of ways to prevent camera shake when shooting handheld.
5-axis in-body optical image stabilization
Dynamic Active Mode for stable handheld shooting
Image stabilizer uses advanced AI
Motion metadata is embedded in footage for post-production
Improved accessibility
Inheriting the BIG6 home screen found on high-end CineAlta cameras such as the VENICE, the FX2 offers easy adjustments to FPS, ISO, shutter angle, aperture, appearance and white balance when set in movie mode. The 3” flip-out touchscreen LCD screen offers intuitive menu navigation and features a tilting design and a 1.03m-dot resolution. Unique to the FX2 is a built-in 3.68m-dot OLED viewfinder with a maximum magnification of 0.7x. The EVF tilts from 0-90°, has a reversible rubber eyecup and has a 33mm eyepoint, allowing you to frame accurately in extreme lighting conditions.
Connectivity and compatibility
The FX2 features extensive connectivity options, with multiple options for power supply, internal video recording, data output, and both wireless and USB streaming.
USB-C port for fast charging via PD or LAN link with Gigabit Ethernet adapter
Streaming at 2.4/5 GHz via Wi-Fi, or 5 GB/s via USB-C connection
One CFexpress Type A/SDXC card slot, one SD card slot and one HDMI output
Multi-function hot shoe, micro USB port and 3.5mm microphone and headphone jacks
Compatible with separately available XLR-H1 Handle Unit for expanded control and audio capabilities
Ergonomic design
Constructed from lightweight, rigid magnesium alloy, the FX2 features a redesigned heat-dissipating structure and built-in cooling fan, ensuring uninterrupted 4K60 recording. The improved grip accommodates a single 16.4Wh NP-FZ100 battery and features one of the camera’s five 1/4”-20 female threads – three for accessories and two for mounting plates. Dedicated buttons cover various functions, including the power switch, record button, movie/still switch, zoom lever, playback button, and control dials, while seven other buttons have user-assignable functions.
