The Hollyland Pyro S is a complete wireless video transmission system for professional film productions, livestreams, events, and multi-camera setups. The set consists of a transmitter and receiver and combines HDMI and 3G-SDI with a maximum wireless range of 396 meters line-of-sight and a low latency of approximately 50 ms .
Via HDMI, the Pyro S supports video signals up to UHD 4K30 , while a maximum of 1080p60 is supported via 3G-SDI. This allows the system to be used with compact system and cinema cameras as well as professional SDI cameras and broadcast equipment.
An important feature of the Pyro series is Hollyland's broadcast technology. One Pyro S transmitter can send its signal to multiple receivers. With Broadcast Mode disabled, up to two receivers and two mobile devices can be used, allowing for a range of up to 396 meters under ideal line-of-sight conditions. With Broadcast Mode enabled, up to four receivers can be used, and the specified range is up to 198 meters.
In addition, the Pyro S features USB Video Class (UVC) . Via USB-C, the received video signal can be recognized directly by a computer for purposes such as livestreaming and video conferencing, without the need for a separate capture card.

Operation
The Pyro S is placed between the camera and the desired monitoring, control room, or streaming environment. The camera is connected to the transmitter via HDMI or 3G-SDI , after which the video signal is transmitted wirelessly to the Pyro S receiver.
The receiver then makes the signal available again via HDMI or 3G-SDI. This allows, for example, a wireless camera to be connected to a production monitor, video switcher, or other video system without a long SDI or HDMI cable between the camera and the control room.
The system operates on both the 2.4 and 5 GHz frequency bands . Upon startup, the Pyro S can automatically select a suitable frequency channel. Additionally, the Smart Channel Scan on the receiver can be used to check which channels at the location are least congested.
This is particularly useful at events and production sites where multiple wireless systems and Wi-Fi networks are active simultaneously.
Long distance and multiple receivers
The Pyro S can be used in two ways.
With Broadcast Mode disabled , one transmitter can send signals to up to two Pyro receivers and two mobile devices. Under ideal line-of-sight conditions, the specified maximum range is 396 meters .
With Broadcast Mode enabled, one transmitter can operate a maximum of four Pyro receivers simultaneously. The maximum specified line-of-sight range is thereby reduced to 198 meters .
This one-to-four functionality makes the Pyro S interesting for larger productions. For example, the same camera view can be made available simultaneously for:

As a result, a separate video transmitter does not need to be placed on the camera for every monitor position.
HD Mode and Smooth Mode
Depending on the production, a choice can be made between prioritizing image quality or the most stable and fastest connection possible.
HD Mode prioritizes image quality and supports a bitrate of up to approximately 12 Mb/s .
Smooth Mode is intended for situations where minimal latency and a stable connection are more important. Transmission can be dynamically adjusted to the available wireless conditions.
This makes the system more flexible for use at busy event venues and productions where the distance between camera and receiver is constantly changing.

The SDI connections are based on 3G-SDI and support a maximum of 1080p60.
This means that 4K transmission is available exclusively via HDMI. A camera connected via SDI can deliver a maximum Full HD signal to the system.
USB-C UVC
A particularly practical feature is the integrated UVC support via USB-C .
This allows the wirelessly received video signal to be sent directly to a compatible computer. The device can be recognized as a USB video source without the need for a separate video capture interface.

Monitoring via mobile devices

As a result, smartphones and tablets can be used as an extra screen via the Hollyland app. This can be useful, for example, for a director, producer, or client who wants to follow the camera feed without using a separate hardware receiver and monitor.

Limits
When choosing the Pyro S, several technical limitations are important.
4K is only available via HDMI. The 3G-SDI interface supports a maximum of 1080p60.
The maximum wireless range of 396 meters applies to line-of-sight use under suitable conditions . Walls, crowds, RF interference, and other obstacles can significantly reduce the practical range.
When using Broadcast Mode with up to four receivers, the specified maximum range is reduced to 198 meters.
The specified latency is approximately 50 ms . As a result, the system is highly suitable for monitoring and many live productions, but it is not completely latency-free.
Wireless performance depends on the available 2.4 and 5 GHz frequencies at the location.
There is no analog audio input; audio is processed via embedded HDMI/SDI.
The units do not have a built-in battery. External USB-C, DC, or battery power is required for mobile use.
NP-F/L-Series batteries and any associated battery accessories must be purchased separately.
The units offer no specific protection against water, dust, or other weather conditions.
There is no built-in Bluetooth or mobile data connection.
The Pyro S is a compressed wireless transmission system and should not be considered a replacement for an uncompressed wired SDI connection in workflows where absolute signal integrity or virtually zero latency is required.
