Blackmagic Design UltraStudio Recorder 3G
The UltraStudio Recorder 3G works exclusively via Thunderbolt 3.
The Ultrastudio Recorder 3G is a video capture device.
Features
The Blackmagic UltraStudio Recorder 3G is a compact video capture and recording unit for connection to a computer with a Thunderbolt 3 interface . The device supports 3G-SDI and HDMI inputs for broadcast-quality video in SD and HD formats up to 1080p60 , with 10-bit uncompressed and compressed video capture . The Recorder 3G is designed to capture footage from professional cameras and sources directly and forward it to editing and streaming software on a connected workstation.
Operation
The UltraStudio Recorder 3G captures video and audio signals from connected SDI and HDMI sources and sends them to a computer via a single Thunderbolt 3 connection. The recorder supports both YUV and RGB video playback with 10-bit color accuracy and works with a wide range of file formats and professional codecs. The Thunderbolt 3 interface transfers high-bandwidth data, enabling real-time capture, livestreaming, and playout from popular video production software.
Application
This recorder is designed for professional video productions, including live streaming , on-set recording , post-production workflows , and archiving . It works with professional SDI and HDMI cameras, mixers, and decks, and is compatible with a broad software ecosystem such as DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Premiere Pro, Avid Media Composer, and other capture or streaming applications.
Limits
The UltraStudio Recorder 3G only supports SD and HD formats up to 1080p60; 4K or higher resolutions are not supported . Capturing at higher resolutions requires other UltraStudio models. Functionality depends on the available Thunderbolt 3 port and the performance of the connected computer. There is no internal storage; all capture data must be written to the host computer.
NB
This UltraStudio is fully compatible with macOS.
During initial installation, macOS may ask for additional security confirmation before the driver becomes active. This is normal Apple security and does not indicate a device malfunction.
After allowing the system software and restarting, the UltraStudio is correctly recognized.
